It is intermittent for me and has not changed with 16.3. It cannot be that widespread a problem so I wonder what else we have going on that is causing it

This has been happening to me also, my battery will get warm to the touch and when I check how much battery has been used by Apple Maps is it around 65% after only a couple hours.

My thoughts are it could be caused by TikTok, it may be tracking locations

if you ever get it resolved, please let me know, using Google maps now- not bad just can’t click on address, need to copy and past addresses

I don't think so as I do not have TikTok and the problem continues till today.

Is there a reason why you don't connect your phone to charge when using CarPlay?

It doesn't matter. I have mine connected via USB and the phone gets hot and stops charging. This happened with a authentic Apple cord and both of my vehicles and only started happening after iOS 16 update. If I don't force close Maps after unplugging my phone from my CarPlay radio, it will drain the battery from near full charge to 20% in less than 1 hr and the phone is super hot. Again, this issue never happened before the iOS16.x update. iPhone 12Pro. Its really frustrating. Not sure why it does this.

This happened to me as well on my iPad Pro 2 gen. Deleted Apple Maps app and so far it resolved the problem. I’m running iPadOS version 16.3.1

Really doesn’t help if you use maps daily!

I really don’t use maps on iPad, but used it once after upgrading to IOS 16 on iPad, since I used it… it began draining my battery, it would go from 100% to 75% in about 40 min. Without using the iPad, noticed that maps was using up power, so I deleted the app. Now it’s back to normal I’m using my iPad normally and gone from 100% to about 96% using it for about an hour and a half.

Same issue. It also drains my Apple Watch. Senior support is going to call me to try to fix it. If the app is closed then no issue.

Tyriza, please get us posted on what you find out. FYI my AppleWatch battery will also suffer from significant battery drainage. I now power my watch off when driving...Thanks

Update. I was asked to remove the Apple Maps from my phone for a few days and use another nav app for a few days. No issues with Waze or google maps no issues. I’ve reinstalled it and the issue came back. They are following up tomorrow. Sounds like I will need to go into the Apple Store.

side note. I’ve found that it you close out maps it at least stops the drain/pauses it.

Yes, I quit the app on my phone as soon as I reach my destination and that does stop the battery drain.
