Change just the wallpaper not the entire lock screen

So I have to create a whole new Lock Screen with widgets and all just to change my wallpaper? why can't I change a wallpaper on Lock Screen I already created? This has got to be the stupidest thing ever

If the Lock Screen you want to change is the one you had before you updated to iOS 16, then you must create a new one to customize it.

Once you do that, this new one can be be edited and the wallpaper alone changed without modifying anything else about the Lock Screen.

But for the first time doing this a new Lock Screen must be created.
