Apple Watch 8 Battery Drain

Brand new watch. First day it seemed to hold the charge. 2nd day it died after 8 hours. 3rd day it was at 50% after 4hrs. Read all the Apple advice (unpair, erase, reset phone and watch simultaneously, checked no Workout apps were running, etc). No luck. Watch also felt a bit warm this morning after charging overnight.

To understand Apple Watch performance and its relation to your battery, see:

Apple Watch Battery and Performance - Apple Support

“Battery life” is the amount of time your device runs before it needs to be recharged. “Battery lifespan” is the amount of time your battery lasts until it needs to be replaced. Maximize both and you’ll get the most out of your Apple devices, no matter which ones you own. See the "Tips for Apple Watch" section in:

If the battery drains too fast after an update, see all the replies to:

FWIW, in some cases, unpairing the watch, completely erasing it, then pairing and restoring the backup will resolve the battery draining issue after an update. (Simply unpairing and pairing again may not work.)

Unpair and erase your Apple Watch - Apple Support

Also, some people have found that simply waiting a few days after an update resolves the battery draining problem.

At this point, your best option may be to make an appointment at the Genius Bar in an Apple Store near you and let them look at it:

Update for anyone following along: I've followed all of javaliga's suggestions but battery was still not holding a full charge. I did the customer support text chat thing but that was not helpful (too many "let me give you some tips on how to charge your watch correctly" type comments. Eventually got through to someone more senior and was sent to the Apple store where I was given a new watch. The new watch works perfectly. Love it. It could be that the problem had something to do with compatibility between the iOS my Watch V.4 could run and transferring to the new one.

Also, if anyone from Apple is reading, the customer service people kept asking me "how long do you expect your watch to run on a full charge?". Weird question. I expect it to run as advertised, of course. Not helpful.
