Bought bought used Mac pro and it has a lock screen when you first turn it on and I'm wondering how I can unlock it

How do I unlock the Apple Mac pro that I purchased from a yard sale with a lock screen on it?

If you mean it shows a padlock, then the Mac has a firmware lock enabled.

Set a firmware password on your Mac - Apple Support

There are only two ways to remove the firmware lock:

  1. You need the password for the firmware lock (ask the previous owner for it or have them disable it for you if they are unwilling to share the password. A firmware password can be different than a macOS user account login password.
  2. The original owner of the Mac can go to an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider and show the proper proof of purchase and proper ID to confirm ownership so Apple or the AASP will remove the firmware lock.

If there is some other lock, then please post a picture of the screen.
