What is “Global Address List”? among iPhone Groups?

Discovered that I have a GAL for each email account listed in my groups. What is it?

I don’t want extra contacts or any I did not create. Can I delete?

Thanks

For Microsoft Exchange accounts you can have local contacts, and also have access to the all of the contacts in your Exchange domain, usually other employees of the business or school that hosts the Exchange account. That is the Global Address List. They are not on your phone; Global Address List is a link to the master Exchange directory.
