I recently purchased a used IPhone, and want to inquire about getting the phone unlock for my network.

Contact the carrier the phone is locked to and request that they unlock it.

Ask whoever you got the phone from or call Apple and give them the serial number of the device.
What is the message on the iPhone's screen?
Assuming that other things are working on the phone.......

Tap Cellular
Look just under Personal Hotspot and the name or initials of the carrier will appear.
Could you possibly help me and see what was the past provider with any information from the phone ?
There’s only a message when I insert the SIM card, I’m trying to figure out the previous service provider. I was busting seeing if you could help me with finding that.
There are different kinds of locks, and each kind requires different actions to get things going.
What is the message on the screen that you see? Hopefully, it is not Activation Lock.
