Is there a way to use iCloud photos without deleting my entire photos library?

So, Move To iOS was repeatedly failing after multiple attempts to transfer my photo library from my Android device (~7 hours per attempt). I work full time so this is unacceptable and as such, I opted to just do the transfer the other way (with my computer and iTunes).

Turns out, if I do this, I have to delete everything again if I want to turn iCloud photos back on. Is there any way around this without losing effectively my whole library, or am I just SOL?

So long as you have your library on your computer, you can remove the items from your phone. Then you can upload at iCloud.com or use Photos (Mac) or iCloud for Windows to upload/sync files Set up and use iCloud Photos on your Windows PC - Apple Support
