i cant activate my brand new phone

I bought brand new phone from America and when i got back to europe i couldn't activate it with Europian SIM card. Is there any way to fix this? "the SIM card that you currently have inserted in iPhone is from a service provider that is not supported under the activation policy that is currently assigned by the activation server"
