Brand new 2022 iPhone SE is bricked

My iPhone SE is less than one month old. Bought directly from Apple.

It worked fine until last night I noticed the screen was black. Software is up to date. Nothing I do will make the screen light up. Tried all the published advice on button pushing to soft reset and hard reset the device. Still just a dark screen.

The only “change” was that I connected it to a new non-Apple charger with a known good USB to Lightning cable for about an hour last night. Putting on an Apple charger now does not boot up the hone.

Never had an Apple product fail so quickly or so miserably before. Any advice?

I managed to speak to a human at Apple. I put the phone on the charger for a couple hours and then ran thru the reset process 3 or 4 times and after holding down the On button for about 15 seconds, it relit. The battery was at 43%. I assume when it was “bricked” the battery was battery scraping zero.

I have read other complaints from time to time of non-Apple chargers damaging iPhones. I've never been clear on what damage is done, but I assume something in the power circuitry is broken by excessive voltage. Apple charge cables and those certified by Apple are supposed to prevent this, but nothing is perfect. It sounds like your iPhone is still under warrantee, so Apple should be willing to repair or replace it. iPhone Repair & Service - Apple Support
