cloning my hard drive chose wrong partition format

I'm cloning my wife's hard drive to upgrade her to a bigger solid state drive. When I went to format the drive, I foolishly chose 'Apple partition map' as the partition choice, rather than GUID. Now I know that I need it to be GUID in order for it to work. Is there any way to change the partitioning back, or have I just wasted an expensive new drive? If there is a way, could someone please walk me through it? I've tried and failed. Thanks.

You just need to erase the whole physical drive again to start over. Within Disk Utility you may need to click "View" and select "Show All Devices" so the physical drive appears on the left pane of Disk Utility.

I should probably say for future readers that I had tried to do just this before, but when I chose the drive, in my case, "Sue's new drive", from the list, it wouldn't give me the option of changing the partition type. But when I chose the parent name, "Sabrent media" and did the erase function, it did give me the option, and it worked. Thanks again.
