Dropped/Calls failed after iOS 16.2

After struggling with dropped calls for months I’d been smooth sailing for quite awhile and then I update to 16.2 and suddenly I can’t hold a conversation for longer than 3-15 minutes without the person I’m talking to saying they can’t hear me. I can hear them just fine. Sometimes I can call right back and sometimes I get call failed and have to restart the phone before I can attempt again. This is getting incredibly frustrating. Anyone else have this issue and any suggestions I can try? I’ve tried turning it off. I’ve toggled airplane mode off and on. I’ve turned off wifi. Nothing helps.

iPhone 12, iOS 16

G'day S_imaging,

To make sure we're on the same page, you're able to make calls successfully with Wi-Fi Calling, correct? If so, the issue could relate to your cellular connection, so this link might be helpful: If you can't make or receive calls on your iPhone

In particular, we recommend trying the steps below:

"Check for a carrier settings update."

"Check your network settings

  1. Reset your network settings. Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will erase all current saved settings, including Wi-Fi passwords, preferred networks, and VPN settings.
  2. Try to make or receive calls in another location."

Let us know how it goes when you try those steps and test making calls in another location. This will help narrow the issue down.

Have a good one.

Hello S_imaging,

We can see where this would be frustrating, and we do have a link that goes to an article for troubleshooting the microphone on your iPhone.

After trying these suggestions, or any steps you haven't already tried, if you are still experiencing this same behavior, we recommend reaching out to Apple Support by going to Get Support. They can look into this with you further.

Take care!
