While listening to audio on any app it will pause randomly and then after 5 seconds or so it will start to play again. This happens when playing Bluetooth or through the speakers on the phone. I have reset the phone and performed updates.

Clarification: in my case, it does not pause, it keeps playing for approx. 5 seconds, then there‘s 5 secs of silence and so forth. As if waiting for the stream to be buffered, except there‘s no problem with our network and it even happens when not streaming

Thanks Chris but that’s not the problem. This happens with downloaded content and across all apps. When it pauses I can press play and it restarts immediately. Very frustrating when listening to podcasts or audiobooks.

Is this music you are streaming or you have downloaded to your iPhone? If you are streaming the music that is pausing, it is most likely buffering due to a weak network connection. You can connect to a stronger Wi-Fi network to resolve the behavior, or save the music to your device instead of streaming it. You mentioned performing updates, is this happening on iOS 16.2? The reason we ask is that the Music app updates with the iOS so we'd like to confirm you're running the latest one.

Are there any updates available for the other affected apps? App updates contain bug fixes that can help the app to function as expected. To manually update your apps:
1. Open the App Store.
2. Tap your profile icon at the top of the screen.
3. Scroll to see pending updates and release notes. Tap Update next to an app to update only that app, or tap Update All.

We also see this on multiple iOS devices. Both local media and streaming, iOS 15.7.1, 16.1 and 16.2.
It‘s been like this for about a week and first happened without any software updates, which is weird because it also affects local media.
edit: it‘s definitely not a bandwidth problem either
Switching off Dolby, then back to „automatic“ seems to have fixed it. Apple, please fix this!
