2021 Apple TV Remote making Samsung TV go berserk

Happened twice already, and read this happen to others as well in this forum. With no one touching the controller, the Apple TV remote kept sending IR signals to my Samsung TV and raising the volume to the max. I couldn't even use another remote to lower the volume because the remote was constantly acting as if it was holding the volume up button. It also went into the Samsung Menu Settings by itself. The only way I figured out it was my Apple TV remote causing it was because the IR Red light was on, and only when I put my hand to cover the Apple TV remote IR signal did this stop.

I have rebooted my Apple TV and tried to reset the Remote already. Happen 4 weeks ago, and just happened yesterday. It is random and I can't replicate it. However, this is troublesome because those that are less technical might not even know what the heck is going on.

Can someone at Apple try to fix this, assuming it's software related?

Hi Happy2000hk,

Thanks for posting here on the Apple Support Communities! This is a place where other Apple users can submit questions or respond to others to help lend a hand.

It sounds like you've tried some great troubleshooting already. Make sure you've tried all steps in If your Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote isn't working which can help with most Apple TV remote issues including the bottom section which we've posted below.

"If your remote still isn't working as expected, try pairing your remote to your Apple TV again.

  1. Point your remote at your Apple TV. Make sure that the remote is about three inches from your Apple TV.
  2. Press and hold Back  (or Menu) and Volume Up  for five seconds.
  3. If asked, place your remote on top of Apple TV to complete pairing.

If you can't pair your remote, make sure that your Apple TV is updated to the latest version of tvOS. You can use the Apple TV Remote on your iPhone or iPad to navigate your Apple TV to check which version of tvOS you have."

If you've tried those steps, this may be something that will need to be looked in to further. Reach out directly to Apple Support to continue.

Best of luck.
