Open folders in New Window

I have tried all of the suggestions to stop folders from opening in Tabs. I have deleted the com.apple file in finder and rebooted, tried safe mode, turned off "Open Windows in New Tabs," I have right clicked, Option right clicked, Command clicked and I do not ever get the option to "open in a new window" even when I hold Option or command. I JUST want folders to open in new windows when i double click on them like the way I had always done it until these new versions of the OS made my Mac disappointingly PC like in behavior. PLEASE help.

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 12.4

Hello VideoEd1,

If you're not wanting folders to open in tabs, you'll want to manage this via System Preferences. Use tabs in windows on Mac covers this and more.

"Specify when to open documents in tabs

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, then click General .
  2. Click the “Prefer tabs when opening documents” pop-up menu, then choose an option—never, in full screen, or always."

If you're not wanting to ever use tabs, select the "Never" option.

Cheers!
