iPhone XS Max can’t connect headphones using lightning adapter

I bought a used iPhone XS Max in beautiful condition from a refurbisher. I am having only one problem with it. I have to use over ear headphones with a 3.5mm plug and It will periodically not switch to headphones when I plug them in. I’ve updated to the latest iOS, powered on/off the phone several times and cleaned the lightning connector with no luck, Any suggestions?

  1. Restart your iPhone: Restart your iPhone
