Time Machine

Why must I use a storage device only as my Time Machine backup disk, and not for storage of other files? I already have a device that has some files on it, but it has a lot of space available.

You could partition the drive but I would not recommend that. Why put all your eggs in one basket. To be safe use two different drives.
