How to find a license code for outdated software that won't open

Normally it would have come in the package for the software.
Otherwise, you may need to contact the software developer for help with old software.
When I purchase software that requires a license I copy the license information I receive from the developer and keep it a safe place for future reference. Did you not do this?
I did not. I usually purchase software at Amazon and they keep the codes for you there. They may stop doing that though because I understand that the storage is going away soon.
