Downloaded music from Apple Music is not playing after cancelling subscription

So, I had a subscription to Apple Music and downloaded a bunch of songs. Now, I don't have the subscription and when I try to play them, they will revert back to being paused, and even when I closed the app and reopened it, it still did it. Is it an issue with my subscription, or is my iPod being stupid?
