Photos taken since migration not synced to new MBP16 running Ventura 13.1

I just migrated yesterday from 2017 MBP15 to 2021 MBP16, both running Ventura 13.1. All the photos / videos seem to have copied. However, I did get a message that it couldn't find the photo library. I poked around found user/pictures/Photos Library Test and clicked on it and voila ... everything seemed fine.

However, today the photos I took with my iPhone (12 Pro Max running iOS 16.2) did not synch with MPB16. The iPhone msg says "Synced with iCloud Just Now.

Thank you, Trish. I did call Apple Support and talked with a Photos specialist. They solved the problem. Indeed, it wasn't linked to the cloud. Here's the steps:

Open Photos then > Photos : Settings : General ... click on "Use as System Photo Library" See attachment

Hi there Alana Kai,

If you are not seeing your synced photos on your Mac, first ensure you followed these steps from Set up and use iCloud Photos on your Mac:

Turn on iCloud Photos
Make sure that you set up iCloud and sign in to iCloud with the same Apple ID on all of your devices. If you have a PC, you need Windows 7 or later and iCloud for Windows.

On your Mac
1. Choose Apple menu  > System Settings or choose Apple menu  > System Preferences.
2. Click Apple ID.
3. Click iCloud in the sidebar, then select Photos.

If this is enabled on your Mac and the photos are still not showing, check the iCloud website here next. This will allow us to isolate if this issue is being caused by iCloud or by your Mac.

Take care!

Hi Alana Kai,

Thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities!

Does other iCloud data seem to sync successfully? For example, do you sync your Notes to iCloud? If so, are your Notes appearing as expected in the Notes app? Confirming this will help isolate this issue to the Photos only.

Have you tried connecting your Mac to a different network. This can help if there is possibly a network issue preventing the photos from syncing.

Check out how to connect your Mac to Wi-Fi here: Connect to the internet with your Mac

From the Wi-Fi menu  in the menu bar, choose a network. You might then be asked to enter the Wi-Fi network's password or agree to terms and conditions.

If this continues, you may want to reach out to Apple Support for further assistance. Depending on your region, you may be able to reach out to them here: Get Support.

Hope that helps!

Hi Ben,

Thank you for your response. I followed all of the steps and still no clue why the new photos taken in the last couple of days since the migration are not showing up in photos on the new MBP 16. They are in iCloud and also show up on my older MBP 15.

I think there is a pointer that is not right to the photo library. It was the only blip in the migration process to the new computer. All thousands of photos / videos made the migration just fine. It just didn't know where to find them. Then I poked around and saw the "user/pictures/Photos Library Test" taking up many gigs of space and knew that was it and clicked on it.

Now when I click on the Photos app, all pre-migration photos are there. It is just not shaking hands to get any new photos since the migration synched.
