Apple Watch stuck in unlock loop with phone

Apple Watch says unlock on phone; iPhone says unlock on watch.

How it happ: After putting on my watch, & then unlocking my phone, I got a message prompt (as always).. "Unlocking your watch (Lock)" and I accidently tapped on that "Lock" in that message.

I've followed the steps mentioned here & here - unpair, erase my watch, paired again to restore the watch - same problem

Then reset the watch & setup as new - same problem.

Hello Ihaveaproblemtoo,

To help us better understand, when you reset the Apple Watch did the same message remain on the display? If so, let's try erasing it directly from the Apple Watch. If you forgot your Apple Watch passcode will walk you through how to do that if you're unable to access the Settings app on the Apple Watch.

  1. "Put your watch on its charger and keep it there until you complete these steps.
  2. Press and hold the side button until you see the power button in the upper-right corner of the display.
  3. Press and hold the Digital Crown until you see Erase all content and settings.
  4. Tap Reset, then tap Reset again to confirm.
  5. Wait for the process to finish, then set up your Apple Watch again. When asked, restore from a backup."

If you continue to see the same message on the Apple Watch display after completing those steps, please contact Apple Support. They'll be best equipped to look into this a bit more, and determine solutions from there.

Regards.

Thanks for the reply.

After resetting directly from my watch & setting up as “new” the problem went away.

However, this seems so vulnerable & can easily happen every time someone taps “Lock” that message & it permanently locks you out, with the only solution to reset the watch as new. Seems like a logic bug to me.

I raised this to Apple support & they said that now that the problem is gone after resetting, it can’t be logged for escalation until it happens again within the same month. (Ahem)
