MacBook Pro 2012 - Time to replace?

Hi,

I'm running a 2012 MacBook Pro and wondering what the expected lifetime is on this device? It seems to run perfectly fine but the MacOS is an older version (Catalina) and I apparently cannot upgrade to a newer OS. Would I be wise to consider upgrading to a new MacBook given the age and older OS on this existing MacBook?

With new Apple-silicon MacBook Pros now readily available (well, they will build you one in a couple of weeks time) and many of the kinks ironed out, this is a great time to kick the tires on a new machine.

remember that the rules for upgrades have changed. Everything inside is soldered down for maximum reliability. Need more RAM memory? need a larger internal drive? Buy it in the original, or you are stuck at that size for the life of the product.
