I am trying to update from Catalina 10.15.7 to Big Sur or a later OS, but my system preferences and the app store say that the version is not available or comparable wcompatableith my current os. Can you help?

Sorry there were a few typo's there. I am trying to update from Catalina 10.15.7 to a later OS, but all versions in the app store and in my system preferences will not open because they are not available. Is there a fix for this?
