My mac mini cannot detect the headphone jack. The headphone jack doesn't show up in System Preferences (Sound, Output) and nothing plays through headphones when they're plugged in. How can I get the headphone option back? Thanks in advance!

Try looking at the system report by clicking on the Apple logo on top left of screen, then About this Mac, then system report.
Once that comes up click on the audio tab and see if the headphone jack shows up.
If that doesn’t help try running the apple diagnostics test, there is a test for the headphone jack.

They will help you resolve this issue
Try restarting your Mac.
Make sure the headphone plug is all the way in the connector. Give it a snug push, but not too hard of a push.
What are your system specs? i.e. mac mini version, macOS version, e.t.c.
Are you able to upgrade OS to latest version?

Thank you, that isn't it either. Also, that would not make the headphone option appear in System Preferences.
