Low Sound on Macbook Pro (M1 Pro)

My Laptop sound is very low when I open it back in the morning; the max level of sound is equal to ~40% of sound level when it's working fine.

This is fixed by a simple login-logout; so I'm pretty sure it's not a hardware issue.

This is happening to me after updating to Ventura (couple of days back), not sure if it's something related to it or just a coincidence.

Also, sound is low with my Airpods as well (not just internal speakers).

Following command doesn't help either; which I found on a existing question about the similar problem -

sudo killall coreaudiod return

Hi ashwani57, Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities.

Let's try to narrow this down and isolate it more by testing in safe mode and a new user account.

Safe mode prevents certain software from opening and completes great checks on startup. More information on starting to safe mode and steps to take after starting there can be found in the link below.

How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

"Mac computers with Apple silicon, then follow the appropriate steps:

Apple silicon

1. Shut down your Mac.

2. Turn on your Mac and continue to press and hold the power button until you see the startup options window.

3. Select your startup disk, then press and hold the Shift key while clicking “Continue in Safe Mode”.

4. Log in to your Mac. You may be asked to log in again.

Intel processor

1. Turn on or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key as your Mac starts up.

2. Release the key when you see the login window, then log in to your Mac.

3. You may be asked to log in again. On either the first or second login window, you should see "Safe Boot" in the top right-hand corner of the window."

If the prompt continues to show after the steps from safe mode, create a new user account (administrator) to see if the behavior happens there. This will let us know if it is system-wide or something within your user account: Change Users & Groups settings on Mac

Change Users & Groups settings on Mac (to remove the test account once completed)

Let us know what you find.

Cheers!

Hi J_Johnnyboy

I tried creating a new account, and safe-mode. The issue doesn't replicate. However if I login to my normal account (which I use day-to-day), the issue will not occur just immediately.

I was wondering if there is any way to debug the output audio (e.g some sort of stats), so we can compare it with the normal functioning in order to identify the issue.

Also, another observation when using the earphones -

I have noticed that when I switch the input device on my laptop from Earphones (Airpods) to Macbook mic (ie. Built-in), the sound level turns lower.
