Install DVD Player?

Can I install the Mac DVD Player w/o a full installation? Or better, download it? I believe that I deleted it while changing from a failed DVIX program to a often successful VLC program (w/its more codecs) A friend suggested that the Mac player would be better than the VLC player even while using the rest of the VLC program.

If all the above fails, then it appears to be time for a relatively painless Archive & Install, which gives you a new/old OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space and no Disk corruption, and is relatively quick & painless...

Just be sure to select Preserve Users & Settings.

That's the latest version of VLC that works in Tiger/10.4.x

Is your recommendation to use Latest Mac OS X package for 10.4 (release 0.9.10) satisfied by Software Update?

No, Software Update only takes care of Apple produced items & a few Printer drivers from 3rd parties, nothing else.

What version of VLC are you using now?

After installing those things, did you Repair Permissions afterwords, & reboot?

[from another page in the Apple site] About the Mac OS X 10.4.9 Update (combo)....To update your Mac to Mac OS X 10.4.9, use Software Update or the standalone installer. You only need to use one of these methods to update your computer.

I used Software Update but was advised that Combo Update is also needed so I downloaded it. It said that my volume fails requirements [* Mac OS X 10.4 or later and * PowerPC-based Macintosh] but I do have them. Is the failure due to Software Update already updating my sys? Or?

If it means anything, my DVD ability is good, tho not perfect, now. But what about the future?

My 4.11 was staring me in the face. #<O

You advise:

I failed with:
http://wsidecar.apple.com/cgi-bin/nph-reg3rdpty2.pl/product=13206&cat=60&platfor m=osx&method=sa/MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.9PPC.dmg

Why is yours needed? The page for mine says 10.4 can use it to upgrade to 10.4.9. Whats special about my having 4.11 and to what will it upgrade? 4.9 also?
