How to generate a "Table of Content" in Pages

I use the commands "include" and "ad a table of content". Next I have the choice between "Document" or "Selection", but both options reman unlighted.

I am in the text version.

A table of contents in Pages is based on three things:

  1. The use of Paragraph Styles (e.g. Heading, etc.) for the content you wish to become the ToC
  2. Your decision to insert a table of contents per section, or per the entire document at its beginning
  3. Your choice of Paragraph styles that you want to appear in the ToC based on Customize Styles from the Table of Contents side panel.
