Burnt smell of new iPad Air 5th generation

is it normal to smell burnt , from a new iPad when charged for the first time?

No. This is not normal.


If you notice a burning smell, disconnect the iPad and discontinue use. Set the iPad aside somewhere safe, away from flammable materials - and seek assistance directly from Apple Support - or preferably the Genius Bar at physical Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider.

Alternatively, if you have access to alternative Apple device, you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:
