Today, I turned on the TV app for the first time in a while, and the video plays automatically according to today, which wasn't the case until a while ago! In other words, the trailers automatically play back and forth!

Sorry I don't know for sure. Could be any one of various reasons.
Wondering if this method may help:
closing Apple TV: Close an app on your iPhone or iPod touch - Apple Support
restarting your iPhone: Restart your iPhone - Apple Support
re-opening Apple TV.
Any improvement ?
