I went into system pref than network the question di I want my Wi-Fi icon lit up in not on my menu I have a 2011 imac

I chose it than I had to put the password to get into my router and the Wi-Fi icon darkened and showed up

than I took my mouse and held it over the icon and my network was first on the list with a check mark
this only happened on my wired computer on my laptop it was ok but wireless!

Hold the mouse down on it, does it show any networks you can choose to join?
Yes several networks to join have not joined any
Do you see one that is yours that you can join by choosing it?

Oh, you can make it automatic in Sys Prefs>Network>Wifi>Advanced>Wi-fi>Remember this Network.
