iPad Pro getting hot and losing content when writing notes with Apple Pencil

When I’m writing with the Apple Pencil, my iPad Pro starts getting hot.

After a while start having a delay between writing and the handwrite-text being displayed.

If I change to other note or close the Notes app, I lose everything that was written after it started getting hot.

This is very frustrating. How can I solve that?

Hello guimaferreira,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities, and we'll be happy to help in any way we can. We understand you're having issues with your iPad getting hot and there being a delay when using Apple Pencil. Have you tried restarting your iPad? This simple step resolves a multitude of issues: Restart your iPad

"How to restart an iPad without a Home button

  1. Press and hold either volume button and the top button until the power off slider appears.

  2. Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.
  3. To turn your device back on, press and hold the top button until you see the Apple logo.

If that doesn't resolve the issue, does your iPhone need updating to iOS 16.2? Do you have a recent backup for the data in your iPhone in iCloud or your computer? If not, we recommend that you create one as described here: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Then update your iOS as outlined here: Update your iPhone or iPad

We hope this helps.

Cheers!

Hi guimaferreira,

Have you tested the Notes app after updating the software on your iPad? We'd like to make sure you update as this can provide bug fixes and the latest security as well as fixing this issue.

When you notice your iPad heating up, are you in a warm environment? This can cause the iPad to get warm.

We have additional information that helps explain why your iPad may get warm while using it. Take a look here:

You might notice that your device feels warmer when you:
• Set up your device the first time
• Restore from a backup
• Wirelessly charge your device
• Use graphics-intensive or processor-intensive apps, games, or features, including augmented-reality apps
• Stream high-quality video

These conditions are normal, and your device will return to a regular temperature when the process is complete or when you finish your activity. If your device doesn't display a temperature warning, you can keep using your device.

This information is from If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch gets too hot or too cold.

Take care.

Thanks for the answer.

Getting hot and the delay is a problem, but the main one is losing everything I wrote.

Yesterday I lost almost 20 minutes of handwriting that I can´t get anymore. And that wasn´t the first time it happened.

This makes me not confident about using the Notes app to handwrite. But all my journals and planning are in it for one and a half years. I don´t want to change, but I also don´t want to lose things. This is very frustrating.
