Portrait mode freezes

My wife's phone keeps freezing in portrait mode. Regular video or photo mode is fine but when you switch to portrait mode, if you change the focus from whatever it is when you move to it (from 1x to 2.5x or vice versa), the image blurs and then it freezes. You can swipe back to regular photo mode but the "view finder" will will be black. Only way to get control of the camera app back is to force quit the app then reopen.

A reboot and a forced reboot doesn't solve the problem.

She's on 16.2 but it was happening before - apparently a few months now and I'm just now being told.

Any ideas?

If you (she) already tried (to no avail) a "forced" restart, using these instructions:--> Force restart iPhone, AND if her device is already updated to iOS 16.2, it might be a hardware (camera? other internal component?) failure but we, just users like you, cannot diagnose that issue remotely, sorry.

I suggest that you make an appointment (*) and have your device inspected at an Apple Store or AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider) among this list:--> Apple – Location Selector. After checking it out, they'll give you all the available options.

Regards

Giulio
