apple tv app not working on sony ty

sony says apple is not supporting apple tv app on my sony tv model why and what can i do except buy a roku

Only select models Sony smart TV support the Apple TV app.

i would like to understand it on a more basic level it is suppose to be a smart ty it runs many other platforms what is so different about the way apple tv works. Is it hardware of software? Did one of them not pay the other sufficient royalties. Sony does regular software updates. What is going on

The list of supported device models is made from an agreement between Apple and manufacturer. The reasons may be various, both technical and commercial, but they are not public, and we’re asked not to speculate.

it would be good to know more about the technical and business side of this issue as i consider buying another smart tv which brands do and which brands models will continue to support streaming channels i watch or new ones that may come along. Can my ty all of a sudden stop carrying a favorite channel or will not work with a new popular offering.

It seems logical that Apple would want more supported devices, not less. But contact Apple for any official statements. Contact Apple for support and service - Apple Support.
