7 plus can’t make calls

My iPhone 7 Plus can’t make calls, can’t activate the microphone, and even on Bluetooth devices can’t activate the microphone. The speaker option during calls is grayed out, and any time I try to use any software where the phone needs to listen it doesn’t work.

When I say “activate the microphone” I mean that the phone is not able to hear anything. As an example, if I tap the keyboard’s microphone button to use speech-to-text it does not even start listening with or without a Bluetooth device connected. Videos I record have no audio at all. I have tried all the apple support suggestions (settings reset, iPhone restore, restore from backup, go to an apple store to have it diagnosed) and none of these suggestions have worked. What am I supposed to do?

What you describe are signs of an  AudioIC hardware issue. You can:

  1. Do an out-of-warranty replacement of your iPhone.
  2. Trade in your iPhone towards a new one.
  3. Find a competent 3rd party repair site that can do the soldering repairs need, but no guarantees. Also, if you go this route Apple may refuse service on your iPhone in the future.
