Apple Watch Series 3 won't update

We recently removed my wife's apple watch series 3 from her account and and are trying it to my daughter's account. It had been sitting unused for a while.

It hasn't been able to get past the update screen. The update progresses, then goes back to zero, then progresses, then goes back to restart.

We've tried everything I can think of: restarting booth devices multiple times, deleting the apple watch app and watch backup files from the iPhone, resetting all data on the watch, updating the phone to the latest iOS version

What can i do to get the watch to update?

Try these steps:

1.    Make sure that your Apple Watch is connecting properly to its charger

2.    Restart your Apple Watch.

3.    Restart your paired iPhone.

4.    Try again to update your Apple Watch.

If the update won't start:

1.    Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.

2.    Tap General > Software Update.

3.    Delete the update file.

4.    Try again to update your Apple Watch.

If the Watch is erased and iphone is on iOS 16.2 then I recommend reviewing the steps in the articles below

I agree. I wouldn't buy one unless I had iphone 6S or 7 to match. I made that point on here when they were still available new from Apple.com a couple of years ago. Caveat emptor.

Don't think I am supporting Apple on this, it has hardly enough memory for the 8.7.1 update and its days are up.
