iPad (9th Genreration) does not have an SIM card

I do know what a SIM card is...it’s something that connects to your phone (well, inside it) that contains your Phone Number. To reach out to my friends, I do need a Phone Number. And I don’t have a SIM card inside my iPad…When I did a test call to my friend, all he saw was the email address in my Apple ID, no phone number. Is there a way to get a SIM card and then put it inside my iPad, then check my phone number,

then add the phone number to my Apple ID? Or is there a different problem?

It will take a nano SIM card. You'd contact your cellular service provider about getting one along with cellular service.

I am guessing the test call you made was a Facetime call. It was using Wi-Fi and then the Internet to connect to your friend. Note that an iPad is not an iPhone. Cellular service on an iPad simply provides a data connection over which you can use things such as Facetime (or third party equivalents) to interact with friends over the Internet. You're just using a cellular data connection instead of Wi-Fi.
