Sound quality on M1 Pro.

I use to have a Dell XPS 9550,and the sound using headphones (ATH-M50x) was better than the M1 Pro that i am using now. I am listening music from you tube and other websites, but still the quality is not the same comparing with Dell. Why Apple doesn't a have a software built in,like Maxx Audio Pro from Dell. Thank you.

Hi eddy_y2k,

Thanks for coming to Apple Support Communities for help today.

It's difficult to speculate why sound isn't as good coming from a website on your Mac as compared to the Dell. It could be network conditions. You could isolate that by using another network.

You may find better sound quality with lossless Apple Music. It would be included in an Apple Music subscription. You can read more about that here: About lossless audio in Apple Music.

How to listen to lossless on your Mac

What you need

You can listen to lossless on a Mac updated to the latest version of macOS using:

  • A wired connection to headphones, receivers, or powered speakers
  • The built-in speakers
  • 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro support native playback of songs at sample rates up to 96 kHz.
  • To listen to songs at sample rates higher than 48 kHz on other Mac computers, you need an external digital-to-analog converter.

How to turn lossless on or off

  1. Open the Apple Music app.
  2. In the menu bar, choose Music > Preferences.
  3. Click the Playback tab.
  4. Under Audio Quality, select or unselect "Lossless audio" to turn it on or off. From here, you can also change the settings for streaming and downloading lossless.

  • Lossless for a maximum resolution of 24-bit/48 kHz
  • Hi-Res Lossless for a maximum resolution of 24-bit/192 kHz"

You can also provide feedback for macOS Safari and how it processes sound here: Product Feedback. Once left, the right team may be able to see it.

Have a fantastic day!
