Camera and Microphone still on after using Whatsapp

Hello. I am currently having a bug on my whatsapp. As we know for the iPhone 14 pro max has a dynamic island and there is a green light indicating when the camera is on.

Well it occurred several time on my phone that after a whatsapp video call, the green light indicating that the camera and mic are on does not go off and when i swipe i can see that it’s written there that Whatsapp is currently using my camera and mic(even i closed the app completely)

i have tried to go on settings then privacy to disable the cam and mic for WhatsApp, but the light dot is still there.

please note that it doesn’t happen after every video call but rather after once every 2 days where i have to restart my phone in order for the dot to go away.

i would be very grateful if i could be advised accordingly.

thanks a lot in advance.

Hi Itsme_16,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. We understand you are experiencing some concerns with your camera and microphone when using WhatsApp. We're happy to help. Check out the steps below to help resolve unexpected app behavior like you're describing:

  1. If an app on your iPhone or iPad stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open
  2. Since this is a third-party app, if this is the only app experiencing this issue and the previous resource doesn't help, connect with the app developer. See how here: How to contact an app developer

Thanks.

I had similar issue.. closed all apps and green dot was still there..

When I done restart. I got some some transient screen for saying "WhatsApp caller" and then it disappeared.

After that there is no more green dot..

But even if there was no app running and I still saw green dot.. it's definitely iPhone/iOS issue rather than app or at least apple should make sure the apps are compliant to there privacy settings and iOS features.

Hope apple comes with some solution to avoid unnecessary frustration.

These are the few perks like security/privacy which apple makes apple.

Yes, I am also facing same issue after almost every 2-3 days of using whats app video call. The green dot doesn’t go off even if close whats app and cleared the RAM. The only way is to restart your iphone. I had reported this issue to apple support long time back they suggested to uninstall what’s app and install it again but this doesn’t help. Then support team said this is what’s app issue not iPhone.

Apple support team should look into this as this is happening mostly in Iphone 14 pro series.

Thank you!

Hi,

Thanks for the reply to itske_16. Even I am facing the same issue.

The problem with green light not going off after a WhatsApp call does not seem to be an issue with the app. The reason I could not find this issue with other apps is because I do not use other apps for video calls.

There has never been a problem with WhatsApp on my other old phones or with my Android phones or phones with other OS.

This definitely seems to be a problem with IOS compatibility with WhatsApp since one of the comment says that the light didn’t go off even after they uninstalled WhatsApp.

This seems to be a privacy issue and need to be resolved ASAP. We do not dump this huge sum of money on a phone to be spied upon, this is for utmost security.

I request the team to look into this problem seriously and provide immediate resolution.

Thanks

I took my iPhone to an Apple Store. They did all the hardware checks and there was no problem on every single component of the phone.

The Genius Bar specialist believes it is an exclusive problem of Whatsapp. But it doesn't happen to all iPhones, why? How can we solve it? I also wrote to Whatsapp but they simply say to reinstall the app. I'm angry!

@Stevi_S Can you solve it please?
