My phone used to connect to my macbook pro. I just upgraded to Monterey 12.6.2. Now I get an error I need to software to connect my iphone 13 mini. I'm hesitant to upgrade to fix an upgrade. Why has this happened?

That message is normal, and tends to happen after you update iOS on an iPhone. Your Mac needs to download additional software from Apple in order to communicate with the version of iOS that is on your iPhone.
I’m sorry but I’m not the guy who knows about that. I asked the question originally. My advice is to follow the prompts your phone or computer gives you.

I had to download something and the problem was fixed. Not automatic.
