Deleting emails

Sometimes after I delete an email it won't purge itself from the list. I can still see the email as part of the list but I am unable to click on it and if I attempt to delete it again nothing happens. I need to close out apple mail for the email to purge itself from the list. This first started with Monterey and is happening more often after updating to Ventura.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 13.0

I recommend redefining your account. Go through the complete settings and configure so that after deletion the mail is also deleted from the server. This helped me solve the problem.
