Problems deleting email messages from Inbox on Monterey

Since the upgrade to Monterey, Apple Mail has been acting strangely. When I'm reading messages in my Inbox, and click the ""Delete" menu bar icon, instead of the message disappearing into a trash folder, it just stays on screen in the Inbox with the blue unread dot, with the "Delete" icon changed to a grayed-out "Undelete." The only solution for me has been to Quit Mail and restart it. Then it's finally gone. Any suggestions?

Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

Thanks for the suggestion, but that did not work. In the meantime, I've restarted using the Spark email client which seems to be working properly.

I've not observed any problems with Apple Mail on either my iPhone or iPad.
