LG 38WN95C thunderbolt issues with Macbook Pro m1

LG 38WN95C suddenly stopped working a few weeks ago, had been working perfectly with the M1 Macbook Pro 14" for 4 months with all bells and whistles. Native resolution at 144hz, charging and usb hub.


Have anyone got any tips or other ways to troubleshoot this?


Issue:

  • When connecting Thunderbolt cable, the Macbook cycles through;
    • Starts to charge
    • Super quick showing "Allow accessory to connect"
    • Disconnects the charing.
  • LG display not seen in detailed "System information" under Thunderbolt connections nor in the System Prefs "Displays".


Troubleshooting done

  • Ran Mac diagnostics at startup, no isses found
  • Replaced Thunderbolt cable, got a no brad Thunderbolt 4 cable (only tb 3 needed).


Normally, I though resetting SMC or NVRAM would help with this, but since this is a M1 mac, no dice.



Here is an image showing how it looks on the display. This cycles every 5 seconds.

Try and boot your Mac in the safe mode to see if the problem persists


  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > Shut Down.
  2. Wait for your Mac to shut down completely. A Mac is completely shut down when the screen is black and any lights (including in the Touch Bar) are off.
  3. Press and hold the power button on your Mac until “Loading startup options” appears.
  4. Select a volume.
  5. Press and hold the Shift key, then click Continue in Safe Mode.
  6. The computer restarts automatically. When the login window appears, you should see “Safe Boot” in the menu bar.
