I can't delete the location service text message. I press and hold the message, but nothing happens. I go to another message to get the more option. I place check mark next to the location service message and the trash can goes grey so I'm unable to delete the message.

Are you able to swipe left over the message thread to delete it that way? Just in case, those steps are found here: Delete and recover messages on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support
As long as the conversation isn't pinned, you can also swipe left over the conversation, tap Delete, then tap Delete again to confirm.
