When trying to pair my Apple Watch days “Checking for a software update failed because vou are not connected to the Internet”. My iPhone is connected to wifi. What are some problem solving solutions?

I purchased a grade A refurbished watch for my nephew. It’s not pairing when he hovers over the watch. He gets to the step that says skip upgrade, then the watch won’t pair. It will ask him to start over or freeze. One of the issues is pictured. He is connected to wifi. I had him share his screen so I could assist.

There are a few things you can try if you are getting an error message saying that "Checking for a software update failed because you are not connected to the Internet" when trying to pair your Apple Watch:

  1. Make sure that your iPhone is connected to a stable Wi-Fi network. The Apple Watch needs to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your iPhone in order to update its software and complete the pairing process.
  2. Restart your iPhone and your Wi-Fi router. This can sometimes resolve connectivity issues that may be preventing your Apple Watch from connecting to the Internet.
  3. Check for any issues with your Wi-Fi network. Make sure that there are no issues with your Internet service provider or with your router that could be causing connectivity problems.
  4. Try resetting your Apple Watch. To reset your Apple Watch, press and hold the side button and the Digital Crown until the power off menu appears. Then, slide the power off slider to turn off the watch and turn it back on by pressing and holding the side button again.
  5. If you are still having problems, try unpairing your Apple Watch from your iPhone and re-pairing it. To unpair your Apple Watch, go to the "Watch" app on your iPhone, tap on your Apple Watch, and tap "Unpair Apple Watch." Then, follow the instructions to set up your Apple Watch as a new device.

I hope these solutions help you fix the issue with your Apple Watch not being able to update its software and pair with your iPhone. If you are still having problems, you may need to get more help from Apple or a qualified technician.

Hello, thank you for your question. Here are some more steps you can try.

  1. Try resetting network settings.
  2. Try toggling airplane mode off and wait 10 seconds before toggling back on
  3. Make sure your iPhone is running the latest iOS version
  4. Ensure your iPhone and Apple Watch are in a charger when performing an update check.
  5. Try using mobile data to check for updates.
  6. Try force restarting your iPhone.

It should work after you have performed the above solutions but just if it doesn't try contacting apple directly. Also have a happy new year!

I have exactly the same problem. I have done all the recommendation several times but I am still stuck at the same screen as posted above.

The diffrence is that I gave my older watch 3 series to my daughter. They were worked and were paired with my iphone. Did clean reinstallation and started the pairing process on my daughters iphone. Result is that I am stuck at the same screen.

So I tried to pair it with my iphone. The result is the same.

When trying to pair my Apple Watch days “Checking for a software update failed because vou are not connected to the Internet”. My iPhone is connected to wifi. What are some problem solving solutions?
