what does it mean when the color of the phone charging ring changes to brown?

I think it’s only showing as brown because of the background color. I think that’s actually yellow. Based on the fact your battery indicator icon is yellow, I would say that you have Low Power Mode enabled.

when i swoosh right from the home screen i get the the page with several widgets, including the one that indicates how charged most of my devices are (phone itself, airpods, watch. etc. ). each device has a ring that is fully closed around it on the screen when it's fully charged. suddenly, the ring around my phone, ,and only that one, is brown and not green.. with no indication why.
