Remove Books from iCloud

I've found lots of threads on the subject but none provide an answer.

Manage Account Storage>Apple Books displays a long list of Documents and Data with many items which are NOT currently available in Apple Books on any device. Many of these appear to be earlier versions of books which have been updated. Some of these books have been Hidden and appear in the list of Hidden items, but many are not there.

In other words, iCloud is taking up storage with books which are NOT available in the Books app but cannot be deleted.

How can one permanently delete books from iCloud?

Shouldn't there be a way to delete hidden books?

If you use iCloud for Books, any books, audiobooks or PDFs you import on another device automatically appear on your Mac.

Hidden books and audiobooks don’t appear and can’t be downloaded.
