MBP 14 inch and External Monitors

Is it possible to close the MBP 14 in and continue to operate only external displays? I used to be able to use this setup with my old 13 in intel MBP, but cannot figure out how to configure the 14 in MBP with its M1 Pro chip.

Is Apple working on a solution to allow multiple external monitors to connect to the M1/M2 models? I was considering upgrading my 2016 MBP to a mac with M1/M2 chips...but holy crap - I can't connect to multiple external displays? What was Apple thinking!?

Mac 24” M1 desktop I’m interested in purchasing the new Mac 24” M1 desk top, and I am wondering if it houses compatibility to connect to external displays, if I wanted to connected a second monitor, which I will be doing so, for work purposes.

Connect my Macbook Air, with Apple M2 to two external displays? I'm having a hard time extending my Macbook Air to more than one external monitor. I've purchased a $139 Belkin Mini Doc with 2 HDMI ports but it only recognizes one monitor. Is this not supported on the M2 chip?

power adapter connected, and keyboard and mouse available, it CAN work.
