I can’t put a rented movie from AppleTV on chromecast but I can access others in the catalog using a browser. Why?

I understand in the AppleTV you can’t use chromecast. For those of us who don’t only pledge allegence to apple and might have other streaming devices, the work around is opening the site in the chrome browser.

Well I tried that for a rented movie and ended up wasting money. I logged in and only could movies in the catalog. Why can’t I see my rented movies in a browser, but I can see them in the app?

As you noticed, the website tv.apple.com is for just Apple TV+ subscription content, not for rent/buy titles.

Select modern smart TVs have the possibility to install the Apple TV app, which allows users to access both Apple TV+ content and rented/purchased movie titles.

Alternatively, users can connect a supported external streaming device to their TV, which allows users to access both Apple TV+ and rented/purchased movie titles.

The website is specifically for the streaming service whereas the app houses that service along with the storefront for rentals/purchases and other channels. You may still have access to the app if you own a smart TV or another streaming device (Roku, FireTV, Chromecast with Google TV). Perhaps verify that first so you can see if you can still access it before requesting the refund.
