Can't upgrade MacBook Air

Recently I was gifted an early 2015 MacBook Air, it has OS X Yosemite and I wanted to upgrade it to MacOS Monterey, but the bar doesn't pass certain point during the installation, I used cmd + L and it says "no IAL update found", what can I do??

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities. We're happy to look into this with you. There are a couple things we'd recommend try to help with the macOS upgrade.


  1. Try the install while booted up in safe mode. This process will prevent some software from loading like login items and system extensions, that could be affecting the macOS install. How to use safe mode on your Mac
  2. If you still run into issues, you might try creating a test user account and see if you're able to install that way. You can find how to create a new user account here: Change Users & Groups settings on Mac (Add account).
