This accessory not supported by this iPad

The question is how do I solve this? I have a Yamaha P515 piano keyboard that has worked fine with my iPad Apps (Yamaha Smart Pianist and Synthesia) for years. The last few weeks the accessory not supported message began appearing and I would loose the connection to the piano. In troubleshooting, sometimes a restart of the iPad and a restart of the piano everything would work again. Now every time I plug the piano into the iPad I get the error and cannot connect the two. In order to rule out the cable and piano I installed Yamaha's Smart Pianist on my iPhone, everything worked as advertised. So what do I need to do on the iPad to get things working again? My next option seems to be do a factory reset and then reinstall my apps but I prefer not to do that.

thanks in advance for any guidance,

Tom

See >>> If you see an ‘Accessory may not be supported’ alert - Apple Support

If you perhaps also using a Smart (folio) keyboard - as this alert is typical of a faulty folio keyboard. The electrical connections that pass though the flexible fabric hinges typically fracture - this usually resulting in errors and/or the on-screen notification that you see.

The Smart folio keyboard itself is not repairable. The only remedy is replacement of the keyboard. As you appear to be within your one-year limited warranty, you need to contact Apple Support or your retailer.

You will find the Support link at top-right or bottom leftof this page.  Alternatively, you can initiate a support case using the excellent Apple Support App.  If not already installed on your device, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

A further alternative is to visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store, where the technicians will be delighted to assist. When visiting the Genius Bar, a reservation is recommended:
