Hello Dharmesh,

Note that the statement in an earlier post about "An iPhone can only have 3 Apple ID's associated with it in its lifespan" may not be correct according to Apple's current documentation.

A message saying, "The maximum number of free accounts have been activated on this iPhone" or, "This iPhone has been used to create/setup too many new Apple IDs" is discussed in the support document: If you see a Could Not Create Apple ID or Could Not Set Up iCloud message - Apple Support :

- A "Could Not Create an Apple ID" message means that you have exceeded the number of new Apple IDs you can set up with iCloud on a single device in one year.

- A "Could Not Set Up iCloud message" means you have created Apple Accounts on certain platforms that need to be set up in iCloud too, but you have reached an annual per-device limit for doing this.

See the recommendations in the link on alternative methods for setting up iCloud accounts, e.g., on a computer, or contact Apple Support if requested:

Click here --> Choose your country or region - Official Apple Support Select your country, then a product. If you don't see one that handles your issue then keep experimenting with selections until you reach one that gets you a chat session or a telephone call and get the representative to redirect you.

An iPhone can only have 3 Apple ID's associated with it in its lifespan. So if you want to use this iPhone with your Apple ID and you cannot, most likely it already had 3 ID's associated with it in its lifespan

If you just want to create an Apple ID and you're getting the message that the maximum of free ID's is created on this iPhone, please create your ID on the web and after that log in with the ID on your iPhone

Create an Apple ID on the web

  1. Go to appleid.apple.com and click Create Your Apple ID.
  2. Follow the onscreen steps to provide an email address, create a strong password, and set your device region. The email address that you provide will be your new Apple ID.*
  3. Enter a phone number that you can always access.
  4. Check the boxes to subscribe to Apple Updates if you'd like. This keeps you up to date on the latest news, software, products, and services from Apple.
  5. Click Continue.
  6. Follow the onscreen steps to verify your email address and phone number.

After you verify your email address, you can use your new Apple ID to sign in to the iTunes Store and other Apple services such as iCloud.
